Training your dog to stop jumping on guests can be a fun adventure!

Start by acting like you have an invisible guest, greeting the air with excitement to puzzle your dog into calmly sitting down.

Keep a plate full of treats by the door and keep one away from the door when guests arrive, distracting your dog and giving your guests a chance to enter safe.

Train your dog to sit when guests arrive by making it a game show: “Sit or Jump!’ If you sit, you get your favorite treat! If you jump, you get... nothing!”

Practice ringing the doorbell and having your dog sit before you open the door, turning it into a workout: “Doorbell! Sit! Treat! Repeat!”

Delegate your dog the role of official greeter with a tiny hat and a sign that says, “Welcome! Please pet me while I sit politely.”

When your dog jumps, turn into a statue with no eye contact, talking, or petting, making them realize that jumping gets them nowhere.

Reward your dog for keeping all four paws on the floor, making it rain treats like you’re at a treat parade.

Consistency is key, and a sense of humor doesn’t hurt either. Good luck, and may your guests stay upright and your dog stay grounded!
